About bong lam

Bong Lam was born in Zhuhai city, Guangdong province of China. At 15, he moved from China to Macau, where he started his apprenticeship at a Chinese restaurant learning to become a chef. Started from the bottom, Bong’s duty was varies from pushing dim sum trolley at the restaurant floor to washing vegetables in the kitchen.

In 1980, Bong Lam moved to Hong Kong, brought with him only what he had learnt from his apprenticeship, he got a job as a dim sum chef in a district restaurant. After mastering his craft, Bong Lam was appointed by a 5 star Hong Kong hotel restaurant, to work as their head dim sum chef at the tourist district of Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong.

A new employment opportunity offer from a famous restautant group in UK gave Bong Lam his opportunity to work in London Chinatown from 1992 to 1997. One of the restaurant’s regular customer, Mr W Wing Yip, was so captivated by his dim sum skill, and persuaded him to open Bong Lam’s first restaurant Wing Wah in Birmingham.

The next 15 years, Bong Lam founded Wing Wah Group, of which he is the chairman. Today, the group has grown to a multifaceted enterprise. Apart from 7 restaurants based in West Midlands, a trendy patisserie, a food factory, a consultancy company specialise in restaurant contracting work.

​

In 2011, Bong Lam was awarded Master Chef by World Association of Chinese Cuisine, the highest honour in Chinese cuisine worldwide.

Bong Lam established his Educational Bursary in 2011 to encourage UK Chinese children to learn Chinese language in China. The famous Jinan University in Guangdong province is one of the universities in China offers schemes to accept overseas Chinese to study in China. Bong Lam’s educational Bursary enable many fulfilling their dreams.
